FAQ

General

What does Kitchenworks do?

We design, build, and install custom cabinetry and fitted furniture tailored to your home. We work on new builds and renovations, creating kitchens, sculleries, laundries, wardrobes, and other cabinetry that suits your space and the way you live.

Where can I find custom kitchen cabinetry in Warkworth?

If you’re looking for custom kitchen cabinetry in Warkworth, we are a locally based specialist offering a full in-house kitchen design and cabinetry service across the Rodney region, delivered by one local team.

Because everything is designed, manufactured and installed from our Warkworth workshop, you work with a single expert team from first sketch to final sign-off. Our cabinetry is fully made to measure, using quality hardware and materials suited to New Zealand homes and conditions.

Do you only do kitchens, or other cabinetry as well?

Kitchens are our core focus, but we also design and build sculleries, laundries, bathroom vanities, wardrobes, TV units, home offices, window/bench seating, garage storage, mirror cabinets, floating shelves and other bespoke cabinetry. If it involves cabinets, drawers, or clever storage, we can usually help.

Who typically works with Kitchenworks?

We work directly with homeowners, architects, interior designers and builders. Most of our renovation clients come to us right at the beginning of their design journey. For new builds, clients either bring detailed architectural or interior design plans, or come with an early concept that we develop together, refining the layout, colours, finishes and materials.

Whether you have full drawings, some ideas, or feel unsure where to begin, we can guide the design from concept to completion.

Design & Process

How do I get started?

The easiest way to get started is to get in touch with us, either via our contact form, by phone, or by email. If you can, share any plans, rough dimensions, or inspiration images. From there, we will discuss your project, outline likely steps and timing, and let you know what information we need to prepare an initial design or estimate.

What is the typical process from enquiry to finished kitchen?

Our process usually follows these steps:

1) Initial conversation – we talk through your project, your space and what you’re hoping to achieve.

2) Design and planning – we develop a detailed design together, which may include a site visit or a showroom consultation, along with layouts, elevations and material choices.

3) Refinement and approvals – we fine-tune the design with you until everything feels right, then confirm the final scope and price.

4) Manufacture – your cabinetry is made to order in our workshop, cut on our CNC machinery, edgebanded, and pre-assembled in our factory so we can check everything fits perfectly before installation. Many clients like to pop in and see it coming together at this stage.

5) Installation – our team installs the cabinetry and coordinates with other trades on site where needed.

6) Benchtops installed – if your benchtops require templating, they’re made and installed once the cabinetry is in place.

7) Toekicks fitted (if flooring is laid later) – when flooring goes in after cabinetry, we return to fit the toekicks for a clean, finished look.

Do I need finished architectural plans before contacting you?

No. You don’t need finished architectural plans to work with us. If you already have architectural or designer plans then great!

But if you don’t have plans, that’s completely fine too. We can simply look at your space, talk through ideas and develop the kitchen design together.

Once your design is finalised, we can provide detailed drawings for your builder, electrician, plumber, and any other trades involved to use during the build.

Can you help if I do not know exactly what I want yet?

Yes. Many clients start with 'I know what I don't want' more than a perfectly clear brief. We will ask questions about how you cook, entertain, and use the space; show you examples; and suggest layouts, storage solutions, and materials that suit your home and budget.

Do you provide 3D visuals or drawings?

Yes. We provide 3D visuals during the design stage so you can see how your kitchen will look and function. Once the design is confirmed, we prepare detailed technical drawings. These are used for a final run-through with you, and then provided to our manufacturing team.

This gives you complete clarity on layout, heights, clearances and storage before anything goes into production.

Can I visit your showroom?

Yes. You’re welcome to visit our Warkworth showroom. It’s a working design space where you can see a wide range of materials, finishes, hardware and benchtop options in person.

We also have examples of drawer systems and storage options so you can get a feel for how things work. If you’d like to talk through your project or look at options together, it’s best to make an appointment so we can spend time with you.

Locations

Where are you based?

We are based in Warkworth, New Zealand. With design, manufacturing and installation all under one roof, you work with a local team who understands the area, the lifestyle, and the way people use their homes and baches. Because we’re local, we also know alot of the builders and tradespeople in the area, which helps keep your project running smoothly.

Which areas do you service?

We mainly serve the wider Rodney and north Auckland region. We regularly work in:

Coastal areas: Matakana, Omaha, Point Wells, Scotts Landing, Martins Bay
Townships: Snells Beach, Algies Bay, Warkworth, Wellsford
Rural areas: Mahurangi East, Mahurangi West, Leigh, Pakiri, Puhoi, Kaipara
North coastal: Mangawhai and surrounding areas

For projects further afield, we’re happy to look at what’s involved. It often depends on the scale and timing, so feel free to contact us with your location and project details.

Pricing & Budget

How much does a custom kitchen cost?

As your kitchen is unique to you, the costs will vary depending on the size of your space, the materials and hardware you choose, and the level of detail in the design. Once we understand your project and priorities, we’ll prepare a clear, itemised quote so you know exactly what’s included.

Can you work to a specific budget?

Yes. If you have a target budget, tell us early. We can often adjust materials, hardware and design details to keep the look and function you want while staying realistic about cost. Our aim is to give you the best possible kitchen for the budget that feels right for you.

Is there a charge for design work?

No. We don’t charge separately for standard kitchen design. We’ll work with you to develop a layout and concept, and once the design is taking shape, we’ll provide a detailed price for the project. Our design time, including layouts, drawings and specifications, is built into the overall project.

Materials & Hardware

What materials do you use for cabinetry?

We work with a wide range of materials chosen for appearance, durability and how you use your kitchen day-to-day. This includes high-quality melamines and laminates, plywoods, timber veneers, lacquer painted finishes, acrylic finishes and wrapped decorative panels.

We pair these with benchtop options in engineered stone, porcelain, sintered stone, marble, granite, acrylic solid surface, stainless steel and laminate (supplied through our trusted fabrication partners).

We’ll guide you through the options so the finishes suit your home, your budget and your everyday use.

Which hardware and fittings do you use?

We typically specify reputable brands of hardware – for example, premium drawer runners, hinges, and lift systems from Blum that are tried and tested in New Zealand homes. Good hardware is a big part of how a kitchen feels and lasts, so we do not cut corners there.

Can you match existing cabinetry or finishes?

In most cases, full matching isn’t something we offer. Existing finishes can be difficult to replicate exactly because of ageing, discontinued products and variations between manufacturers.

If you’re renovating, we generally recommend designing new cabinetry that complements the space rather than trying to create an exact match. We’re happy to advise on colours and materials that work well together.

Timing & Installation

How long does the whole process take?

Overall timelines depend on the project and how busy the workshop is, but we can generally work within most timeframes. We will provide you with a project-specific timeline before we start.

As a guide:
- Design and approvals usually take a few weeks or more. Most clients like time to think things over, compare materials and fine-tune the details. We recommend starting the design process as early as possible, as there are often many decisions to make.
- Manufacturing typically takes several weeks once everything is confirmed, from ordering materials through to the completed build.
- Cabinetry installation is normally completed in one to two days.
- Benchtops usually require templating after the cabinetry is installed. Once templated, and depending on the chosen material, fabrication generally takes up to ten working days before the benchtop can be installed.

Do you handle installation, or do I need my own installer?

We provide installation as part of our service. Our installers know your cabinetry because they have built it, pre-assembled it in our factory, and worked closely with our designers throughout the process. They also know what to look for on site to ensure everything fits and functions as intended.

Can you coordinate with other trades?

Yes. We work with all the usual trades on a project and make sure the timing is organised so the installation runs smoothly. We’re also happy to answer any questions they have about our plans or requirements.

Practicalities & Details

Do you supply appliances as well?

Most clients prefer to select and purchase their own appliances, often with guidance from us on sizes, as appliance dimensions can have a big impact on the overall design. Once your appliances are confirmed, we design the cabinetry to suit those specific models. If you’re not sure where to start, we’re happy to talk through the common options and what typically works well.

Can you design hidden sculleries, pocket doors, or other clever features?

Yes. We often incorporate sculleries, integrated doors, pocket doors, and other concealed storage solutions into our designs. If you are interested in features like a hidden scullery entrance or pocket doors that close off an appliance or breakfast area, mention it when you enquire and we will show you what is possible.

Do you offer warranties on your cabinetry?

We stand behind both our workmanship and the products we specify. Hardware and materials are covered by their manufacturers' warranties, and our installation and cabinetry are covered by our own workmanship guarantee. We will outline the relevant warranties for your project and are always available if you have questions after installation.

Aftercare

How should I look after my new kitchen cabinetry?

Care is generally straightforward: use a soft cloth with a mild, non-abrasive cleaner, avoid harsh chemicals or scouring pads, and wipe up spills promptly.

What if I notice an issue after installation?

If something does not look or feel right after installation, please contact us as soon as possible. We would rather hear about it early and resolve it. Whether it is a small adjustment or something that needs more attention, we will assess it and agree the best way to put it right.
